2024 Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) Summit and Expo in Anaheim

At the 2024 Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) Summit and Expo in Anaheim, CA, Sahel Moein and Ziwei Li, PhD students at the Disability Participation and Quality of Life Research Lab, presented the findings of their research on the Individualized Reduction of Falls Online (iROLL) program and its mobile version.

Ziwei’s presentation, titled “Clinician’s Perspectives Toward Online Fall Prevention and Management Programs for Wheelchair and Scooter Users,” emphasized the key components of the iROLL program from the perspective of fall prevention experts. This talk highlighted the program’s strengths in addressing the unique needs of individuals who use wheelchairs and scooters full-time.

Sahel’s presentation, “Designing a Fall Prevention and Management mHealth App for People Using Wheelchairs and Scooters Full-Time,” focused on the development of the mHealth version of the iROLL program. This talk detailed the co-design approach used to adapt the program into a mobile platform, incorporating insights from a literature review and feedback from end-users. Together, the presentations provided a comprehensive look at the development and clinical integration of the iROLL program and its translation into a mobile platform to reach a wider audience.
