Conference Presentation at the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals (ASCIP)

During the recent Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals (ASCIP) conference, the current study’s findings on fire readiness for wheelchair users (FEW) were presented. This research, addressing a critical gap in fire preparedness for individuals using wheelchairs and scooters, highlighted the effectiveness of a tailored educational program in improving participants’ confidence, fire safety awareness, and adoption of specific safety measures. With limited studies focused on fire readiness for wheelchair users, this program stands out by providing practical, accessible resources and strategies to enhance emergency preparedness. The ASCIP audience, including research funders, healthcare professionals and researchers, responded positively, acknowledging the program’s potential to serve as a model for fire safety education in this vulnerable community. Feedback from the conference will inform further development of the program to maximize its impact.
