Development, Reliability, and Validity Assessment of a Fall Concerns Scale for People Who Use Wheelchairs and Scooters (FCS-WC/S)

Dr. Laura Rice and her colleagues conducted a study titled “Development, Reliability, and Validity Assessment of a Fall Concerns Scale for People Who Use Wheelchairs and Scooters (FCS-WC/S)”, published in the Disability and Rehabilitation Journal. This study introduces the FCS-WC/S, a new tool designed to assess fall-related concerns among individuals with various health conditions who use wheelchairs or motorized mobility scooters full-time. Through comprehensive psychometric testing, including evaluations of reliability and validity, the FCS-WC/S demonstrated strong performance. This tool offers clinicians a valuable resource for screening fall concerns across a diverse non-ambulatory population, addressing a critical gap in existing measures typically designed for ambulatory individuals or specific health conditions, and showing promise for improving fall prevention strategies in this underserved group.
